Potatoes – an integral ingredient in hundreds of recipes and they can be eaten with many others. It’s almost impossible to believe that this popular ingredient is a relatively recent arrival in this country. Austrian Empress Marie Theresa is responsible for spreading the tubers far and wide as she had them imported to the Czech lands during a famine in the 18th century.
Ingredients:
| 1000 g potatoes 330 g sauerkraut 350 g smoked meat 350 ml cream |
salt caraway seeds fat for greasing the roasting tray |
Instructions:
Peel the potatoes and cut into discs. Rinse the sauerkraut. Cook the smoked meat and chop into pieces. Grease the roasting tray with fat and lay half of the potatoes onto it. Sprinkle with salt and caraway seeds, then add the sauerkraut and smoked meat. Then add another layer of potatoes on top, sprinkle on some more salt and caraway seeds and pour over with cream. Cook in a preheated at 180-200 °C.
