Krkonoše mushroom bake - recipe

In addition to carp and potato salad mushroom bake is another typical Czech Christmas dish. If you don’t make this old Bohemian yuletide dish in the festive season, you can always leave it for the mushroom season. Leave out the bacon, and hey presto, you have a tasty vegetarian dish.
Ingredients:
| 300 g groats (peeled barley) 150 g onion marjoram caraway seeds butter |
3 cloves of garlic 100 g fatty bacon salt pepper 150 g dried mushrooms |
Instructions:
Rinse the groats in boiling water and leave to drain. Chop the bacon into pieces and fry with some finely chopped onion. Add to the pan the groats, a pinch of salt and the spices. Cover with water and bring to the boil. Soak the mushrooms, drain, then fry in butter before adding to the groats. Cook everything until soft, add some garlic and then bake in the oven for around 30 minutes.
