Northwest Bohemia
This region defined in the north by the Krušné Mountains attracts visitors with its many places of natural beauty, historical monuments and architectural treasures, including the chateaux in Duchcov, Klášterec nad Ohří, Krásný Dvůr, Libochovice, Ploskovice and Velké Březno. In between there are viewing towers to be climbed, spas to relax at and beer to be tasted at the region's breweries.
In the midst of this fertile landscape of huge fruit orchards, vineyards and hop fields rises a mountain wreathed in legend called Říp. It was here that the first Slavs, lead by Čech, settled in the region. Thousands of tourists a year let themselves be drawn by the Lužické Mountains, the České středohoří Mountains with the beautiful Elbe valley called the Porta Bohemica, the fascinating Elbe sandstone rock formations and the Czech Switzerland National Park.

Duchcov
This is a Baroque chateau with neo-Classical additions and a French-style garden sporting sculptural pieces by Matyáš Braun. The world-famous seducer Giacomo Casanova worked for 13 years as chateau librarian at the end of the 18th century before he died here.
Budyně nad Ohří Castle
Only a small Renaissance-era section of the original castle survives here. Attractions include an alchemist’s workshop belonging to the former owner, Jan Zajíc of Hazmburk, which became of interest to the 16th-century Emperor Rudolf II himself.
Říp
This mountain is a national cultural monument, and the same one which, according to legend, was climbed by Čech and his tribe of Slavs prior to settling the surrounding area. At the top you’ll discover the Romanesque rotunda of St George housing a collection of boxes which contain soil from the famous battlefi elds of Czech history.
Czech Switzerland National Park
These unique sandstone ‘rock towns’ with their towers, walls and gates also include the famous Pravčická Gate, the largest natural rock arch in Europe. Canyons formed by the Kamenice and Přinice rivers are also unmissable. The complex is part of a wider area of sandstone rock formations.
Terezín
This neo-Classical military fort dating from the late 18th century has extensive earthworks and a network of underground passageways. During World War II the town became infamous as an internment camp for Jews.
