Northern Moravia and Silesia
A blend of beautiful scenery, historical monuments and leisure facilities, this should be the choice of every traveller. The region's centre is the city of Ostrava, the third largest in the country, which has long since thrown off its coat of coal dust, and now offers visitors a range of interesting places to see and things to do, such as the Baroque Old Town Hall and the First Republic (1920s and 30s) New Town Hall, the Landek Hill with its Mining Museum and the intense musical experience which is the Colours of Ostrava festival.
The landscape is dotted with many typical timber churches, the oldest of which dates back to the mid-16th century. The Arboretum in Nový Dvůr u Opavy is known around Europe, and takes care of rare plants from five continents. Popular attractions include the trout farm in Bělé, the Choltice windmill, or the horse breeding farm in Albertovec. The pride of the Beskydy Mountains is its renowned ski resorts and of course the virgin nature and miraculous mountain air.
