Glassmakers, weavers, drapers and lumberjacks - for centuries these professions fashioned the traditions of this region. Their skill is documented in museum exhibitions found in every small town. One of the region's remarkable industrial heritage sites is a cog railway line, the only one of its kind in Europe, which runs through the mountains
between Tanvald, Kořenov and Harrachov.

Thanks to the region's diverse landscapes, with a castle or chateau on every wooded hill, North Bohemia is a popular holiday destination. The main city in the region is Liberec, above which looms a mountain called Ještěd topped with a futuristic TV tower, ski resort and ski jumping arena. Another popular leisure destination is Mácha's Lake, while extreme sports fans are attracted to the region's rocky outcrops.
