Giant Mountains
The lofty ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains and our highest peak, Sněžka, are the cradle of Czech skiing. The excellent snow conditions and stunningly beautiful natural surroundings make this a popular destination for winter sports fans and mountaineers. The Elbe, one of Europe's longest rivers, rises here, before winding its way across the Czech Republic and crossing into Saxony.
In addition to numerous resorts offering year-round sports activities such as Harrachov, Špindlerův Mlýn and Pec pod Sněžkou, visitors can also experience demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades and exhibitions at the Novosad & Son glassworks and the Kovárna historical mine, where iron ore, copper ore and arsenic was mined for centuries. The remarkable Tanvald rack-and-pinion railway, which runs to Harrachov, is still in service to this day.

Janské Lázně
This major Krkonoše winter sports resort can be found on the slopes of Černá hora, to the top of which runs a cable car directly from the town below. This famous spa town boasts thermal springs which were discovered as early as the 11th century.
Krkonoše National Park
One of the largest nature reserves in Europe was created in 1963. Up to 8 million visitors a year make the trip here. The rare species which inhabit these mountains include the alpine blackbird and the short-tailed vole.
Mumlav Falls
At one point the River Mumlava tumbles over a 12-metre-high granite ledge. Beneath the waterfall this creates you will fi nd the so-called Devil’s Eye, a hollow in the rock created by the action of water and stones. In winter it freezes creating a wall of ice.
Špindlerův Mlýn
Downhill and cross-country skiing trails, which are in action fi ve months a year, as well as paragliding, horseracing, bobsleigh rides and an aqua park – all this can be found at the most famous alpine resort in the Czech Republic.
Sněžka
Rising 1,602m above sea level, this is top dog when it comes to Czech mountains. From Pec pod Sněžkou a cable car runs to Růžová, another peak in the area. The Kovárna mining museum is actually located deep within the mountain itself.
