Vyznačený region na mapě republiky

In this idyllic region straddling the middle reaches of the River Jizera the wonders of nature unite with a rich array of historical castles, chateaux and folk architecture. This is probably the reason 19th-century spa guests from Sedmihorka began to call this part of the country ‘Czech Paradise'. The unusual landscape, with its distinctive so-called ‘rock towns' and diverse flora and fauna, led to the Czech Paradise being declared the first
protected area in the country; today it bears the title of UNESCO Geopark.

Day-trippers are drawn here by the symbol of the region, the ruins of Trosky Castle. Other great places to visit are medieval Kost Castle and the neo-Gothic chateau at Sychrov. Fascinating exhibitions at the region's museums tell the story of traditional crafts and trades - glassmaking in Železný brod, wooden toy and mould production in Semily and garnet jewellery making in Turnov.
